Maastricht, Netherlands
The house of wonders.
Overlooking the imposing Basilica of St. Servaas in Maastricht is Maison Haas Hustinx, a hotel housed in two monumental buildings representing the eclectic style of the 1920s. Each room has been restored with respect for the historic space it occupies. The combination of custom, vintage and contemporary works, including blown glass and Normann Copenhagen pieces, creates a beautifully balanced design. One hundred years after the buildings construction, a seamless zinc and glass structure was erected, merging the present into this historic site. The passageway to the rear of the building leads to a tiled area with marble mosaic floors and embraced by overhanging Tuscan jasmine. This new annex sits above a spa; a tranquil sanctuary tucked away in the Vrijthof. It includes a swimming pool, sauna, hammam and mediation, confession or prayer hut; a place to practice spiritual wellness.
